Just when you think the sun is setting on your career, along comes a new challenge. The above photograph was taken from what was to be my last project, a ship called Khankendi in the Caspian Sea. That was five years ago and having resigned from my position as Technical Manager for on offshore oil shipping company, I then spent one year working with the same company as a consultant. I now have my Blog, I am writing a book, and I am trying to bring our Victorian house to energy independence, I have a seven year old son and today I have been asked to start designing an offshore support vessel to meet the challenges of operating in the shallow waters of Turkmenistan. Life is good and the best thing is that the majority of my work can be completed at home. My days of traipsing around the world are over but I do need to earn money.
Afternoons are dedicated to working on the house so time to get my dirty clothes on and build a tower so that I can complete installing a new roof on our leaking, freezing cold conservatory.
